Kiona was never good at planning ahead, or maybe she was just really good at doing things on the fly? This evening would be a true test on which of those seemed more applicable to her character. She stood now in the freezer section of an off brand grocery store; scanning the bare sections for at least one, decent looking turkey. The whole Walker family had decided to gather out of town to celebrate with a very ancient and distant relative, for what can be assumed to be their last holiday. Kiona was meant to be there days earlier, but rooms filled up and she figured delaying her trip and stay would be smarter that way. Would have been had she not been responsible for bringing a turkey from out of town (where she was going was very rural, not shit for miles and miles).

Naturally many places were closed or sold out due to the holiday prep, so Kiona looked a bit worse for wear considering her inky black curls were frizzier and fluffier than normal. Multiple curls dishelmed and out of place in her pale face, though her cheeks were rosy from rushing around. And being that Demont was a mountain town; her boots and even the lower half of her jeans were cold and wet from enduring the harsh weather outside. It matched her cold and nearly dead looking fingers that were frozen from sifting through the bins and freezers at multiple stores; but no longer.

There it was.

She saw it across the section, probably ten feet away.

One.

Last.

Turkey.

It didn’t look like enough to feed all the Walkers but at least she would be coming empty handed. She broke into a dead sprint towards the freezer, prepared to claim her bounty and get the hell out of there.

Jacey had been in America for quite some time (long enough to consider long term residency and "naturalization") and in all his time spent in the great U.S. of A, he had not once celebrated Thanksgiving. Of course, he'd been invited to dinner with friends and their family, and of course, he'd had turkey (if at the very least in the form of a sandwich) on the beloved "Turkey Day" holiday, but he had yet to spend it properly in the way of preparing a whole meal and watching a good ol' American football game.

So this was his year.

His mum, dad, and sister were coming all the way from his homeland of Australia to visit their eldest son as well as some old family friends, and Jacey was determined to impress them by showing them how well he'd integrated to the "American way", even if it was by the way of cooking some repulsive woodland fowl and soggy bread.

However, despite him wanting to impress, he put little effort into the preparation phase as he hadn't bought ANYTHING, which was proving to be a poor decision on his part as there was nothing left on the shelves.

"Not even one goddamn bird." He murmured to himself as he shambled through the frozen food aisle. He was bundled up and looked worse for wear with his secondhand (thrift store) parka and plaid PJ bottoms, as well as a pair of scuffed up snow boots. He had a scarf wrapped up high around his neck and face and looked positively chilled to the bone and miserable about everything.

Until he saw it.

One.

Fucking.

Bird.

His face instantly lit up and he hurriedly made his way over to the freezer door to where the bird laid left, abandoned by his brethren.

"Fucking lucky day!" He scoffed.

Kiona had pretty much disregarded anyone else around her, she didn’t even look up long enough to notice the other person gunning for her bird. Not that it mattered, the girl slipped on the wet floor and slid into the freezer door. Better that way than falling on her bottom.
“Ouch.” She quietly grunted under her breath before pulling herself off the door and reaching in for the turkey.

"Oi! Oi! Oi! Woah!" Jacey sputtered, panicked, as he came to a skidding halt at the freezer, his knee smacking hard into the side of the freezer. "That's my bird!" He squawked.

“What?” Kiona exclaimed, turning to face the man as she pulled the bird off the shelf. “Um, sorry; first come first serve.” She said with a shrug.

"Oi, I saw it first though!" Jacey proclaimed, watching as a squirrely set of toddlers came crashing down the aisle with their negligent enough mother, making their way straight for the girl at top speed before the both of them slid on the wet floor and into the girl.

Kiona yelped as two little boys crashed into her, running and sliding on the same slippery tile that she had almost been victim too earlier. No matter, she was the victim now as the children knocked her off her feet; sending the turkey down and sliding across the tile.

Jacey couldn't help but grin broadly at the misfortune as he hastily stepped around the two tots (who quickly recovered) and raced over to the turkey. He grabbed it up and kissed the packaging before turning to smugly look down at the girl on the floor.

"American hospitality at it's finest. Thanks a million." He grinned.

Kiona groaned but didn’t take the time to nurse any of her ‘wounds.’ She very haphazardly leapt at the man, not quite getting off the ground, so to tackle him at the legs.

“Oh no you don’t!” She yelled.

"Bloody-" Jacey promptly ate shit, falling to the floor while the turkey made a great escape and slid further down the aisle. "You wicked woman!" He hollered, trying to wiggle his legs free. "Let me have the damn turkey, you American glutton!"

“Glutton? You’re the one who took advantage of someone who got hurt for the friggin bird!” Kiona yelled, practically crawling up him and too her feet, racing down the aisle.

"I'm just trying to make a meal for my family!" Jacey grunted as he shambled to his own feet, trying to shove passed the girl while using his longer legs to get at least speed on her.

“So am I!” She yelled, shoving him as he passed to try to slow him down.

"You probably-" Jacey stumbled into a freezer door the toddlers had swung open in their rampaging wake. "Fuck! Ow!" He quiclky corrected his path and hurried again. "You probably do turkey every year! I've never done it!" He hollered.

“That sounds like a YOU problem, ‘MATE.’” Kiona mocked, rushing by and scooping up the turkey; continuing to race down the aisles.
